Courbez-vous - 1997

Collection Fondation Claudine et Jean-Marc Salomon. Château d´Arenthon.

A broom sits, so to speak, in the middle of a room. The inside of the brush has been hollowed out to let the light of an electric bulb pass through. The work operates like a slide projector and the slide that creates the resulting image is made solely out of the brush´s discarded hair carefully assembled together. The work therefore presents itself as the encounter of a bulb and a broom. Further, the viewer´s eye is guided towards the wall where one can perceive the sketch of a famous artwork.

"By the magic of art, with a simple sweep of a broom and a luminous projection, Loriot-Mélia, who never lack humour, offer to reconsider the origin of the world not in relation to the female ideal but ironically in a rather more domestic manner."
Philippe Piguet, art critic. Excerpt from the exhibition catalogue 'Collection 2'. Salomon Foundation - 2005.
